Principles of mark entry
Important guidance: absent students, NAs and zeros

Follow the guidance below to get the most out of MERiT's automatically generated reports and to contribute to accurate population analysis.

Principles of mark entry

Mark entry into MERiT is easy to do either online or via spreadsheet download. The distinction between questions that were not attempted and those where the response gained no marks is very important.

  1. If a student didn’t sit the test then leave mark entry empty for all questions
  2. If a student did attempt a question but didn’t achieve any marks, then enter ‘0’ (zero) for that question

For online mark entry, if a student did sit the test, but didn’t give any answer for a question then click ‘NA’ or type 'N' for that question.

For spreadsheet mark entry, if a student did sit the test, but didn’t give any answer for a question then 'NA' or 'na' for that question.
